MADRID Ryan Tannehill Color Rush Jersey , Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- A supporter of Spanish football club Deportivo la Coruna was critically injured on Sunday morning in a fight between followers of his side and Atletico Madrid outside Atletico's Vicente Calderon Stadium.


11 other people were injured in the fight with three reported to be suffering from stab wounds, while police made two arrests and identified 30 people involved in the fight.


The supporter, who was reported to be around 40 years old, received a blow on the head in the fight between two sets of fan; Deportivo's Riazor Blues and Atletico's Frente Atletico, before being thrown into the River Manzanares, which runs alongside the ground. He was under water for around 8 minutes before being brought to the surface by divers and taken to Hospital Clinic in Madrid, suffering from his injuries and also from hypothermia.


The hospital reported the supporter to be "clinically dead," around half an hour before the match was due to kick off at mid-day local time, although this was later corrected.


In 1998 Aitor Zabaleta, a Real Sociedad supporter was stabbed to death outside the ground before a European game in 1998. Atletico Madrid issued a communque condemning the incident, but despite the tragedy the game, which ended in a 2-0 win for Atletico.


The Spanish Football League also issued a communique saying that had wanted to postpone the match, but that they had not been able to do so.

ACCRA, July 2 (Xinhua) -- The head coach of Ghana's Black Stars, Kwasi Appiah, will keep his job despite Ghana's first round World Cup exit, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) sad here Wednesday.


Appiah took Ghana to the worst performance in the World Cup since the Black Stars debuted at the 2006 finals in Germany.


The Black Stars, quarterfinalists four years ago, finished bottom in Group G with one point following defeat to the United States, a draw with Germany and loss to Portugal.


However, the president of the GFA, Kwesi Nyantakyi said the Executive Committee of the FA had expressed its confidence to the continuity in office of the head coach.


""So we will finalize discussions on new terms on his further engagements,"" he told journalists at a press conference in Accra.


He said the Executive Committee, the highest decision making body of the association, at its meeting early on Wednesday, also asked Appiah to review the selection of players into the team and plan with the future in mind.


""We also asked the head coach to review the current squad and retain players only on the basis of competence, commitment and discipline.


""The coach was further encouraged to consider young additions to the team,"" Nyantakyi said.


Ghana has now shifted attention to the African Cup of Nations qualifiers in September to book a place in the 2015 finals to be stage in Morocco.


""We are going to redirect our attention and focus towards first qualifying and most importantly ensuring that we win the African Cup of Nations in Morocco,"" said Nyantakyi, who is also an executive member of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
