I believe that in pakistan, there is a system of secrecy, we are not given direct access to information, but right to information is the basic right of every citizen in a democratic country.
this system of secrecy creates a mistrusted impact among us.
GOVT of Punjab have passed an act "
PUNJAB TRANSPARENCY AND RIGHT TO INFORMATION ACT 2013. according to this act, every citizen have given the right to every information,, like if we talk about corruption, this act gives us the right to ask the respective authorities about their work progress, where our taxes are going? because we are giving the tax to government,, so they are accountable to us.
now the problem is that most of the people, they dont know about this act and how to use it, because of no awareness at gov. level or in media.
now its the time to stand up and ask the govt.. make them accountable, no one will do this for us. Govt. have fulfilled his duty by passing this act, now the effective implementation of this act depends on us.
every citizen of pakistan can ask about every thing.. just we have to write an
APPLICATION to the respective authority and simply point out that you want this and this information under punjab transparency and right to information act 2013, and they are bound to give you the required information within 14 days.
for example:
if roads outside your house are not under construction, although the budget is being allocated by the govt.
what you have to do is to write an application to the respective authority of your area responsible for road construction, is there any budget allocated by govt. for this road construction, if yes, then how much? how this budget is distributed for construction of road? how many workers are imployed? what is the progress.....
this is just a simple example. we can target any area,, at any level..
just the need of hour is to create awareness about this act, and to start practicing it despite of blaming the govt.
make the govt accountable.
