Thomas Rezabek, 27, of Cleveland was taken into custody May 29 after Brecksville police served him with a warrant at his West Side home. Rezabek admitted to police that, on May 18, he stole a wallet from an unlocked Chevy SUV on Mallard Drive in Brecksville.
The wayward West Sider was in the neighborhood doing painting work with a friend. His friend's orange truck had broken down, and they went to homes looking for jumper cables. One of those homes was that of the victim, who told police it appeared he had an orange truck.
Rezabek then went to the WalMart at Steelyard Commons and used the card to buy a fan and microwave, as well as to get $60 in cash. The store had footage of that transaction.
He also attempted, unsuccessfully, to withdraw $700 from two KeyBank accounts. There was

On May 21, Rezabek's mom called the victim and said

Rezabek told police his friend had no idea the money used to fill the truck was stolen. He also said he sold the goods from WalMart to buy heroin. He was charged with fifthdegree felony theft, fifthdegree receiving stolen property and misuse of credit cards. May 3 on Interstate 77. When he spoke with the occupants, the odor of marijuana permeated the passenger compartment, and the front seat passenger had noticeable residue on her shirt.
She said there were no drugs in the car.
After being confronted with the evidence, though, the driver admitted to having a bag. Police escorted the man, 18, from Akron to a police cruiser after he produced the small bag.
Also in the car was a pipe with residue, a grinder and a rolled marijuana cigar.
The man was cited for contributing to the delinquency of a minor, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving an unsafe vehicle and not having his driver's license.
His two female passengers were released from the scene after being searched for contraband. They didn't have any.
MVA, ROUTE 82: An unlucky 16yearold from Hudson had an accident June 2 in Brecksville.
The teen pulled into the parking lot for Bruegger's and parked facing Chippewa Road. Her red Dodge Dakota jumped the parking curb and struck a light pole, which fell into the eastbound lanes of Chippewa Road.
No one was injured. The Service Department crew took care of the pole.
