New wow gold details have been released from Blizzard, explaining the revised badge/emblem and PvP/Arena Points changes coming to World of Warcraft with its upcoming expansion, Cataclysm.
Hero Points and Valor Points (PvE)
The new PvE model will work similar to the system players are already familiar with in Wrath of the Lich King, but will retain two tiers throughout: Hero Points and Valor Points.
Hero points will work like the current Emblems of Triumph, with no limit to how many the player can earn, and will come from most dungeons. Valor Points act like Emblems of Frost, coming from raids and running random heroic dailies. Both points have a maximum cap on how many a player can own, with the additional caveat that Valor Points also have a maximum cap of how many can be earned per week. In this model, players can choose how to earn their maximum Valor Points per week.
Similar to how content progession has worked in Wrath of the Lich King, upon the release of new content, new points gear will be released. Unlike the previous system however (remember, WOTLK currently has Emblems of Heroism, Valor, Conquest, Triumph, and Frost), Valor Points will automatically be converted down to Hero Points with the release of a new tier of content. This option allows players to "get the shiny hotness now, or wait until it 'goes on sale' next tier."
Honor Points and Conquest Points (PvP)
The new PvP points system mirrors the PvE points system. Honor Points will remain as they are, gained from most casual PvP activities. Conquest Points, which are Arena Points renamed, will be earned from Arenas and Rated Battlegrounds. Like Hero and Valor points, both will have a maximum cap, with Conquest Points having a maximum cap per week as well. Also like Hero and Valor Points, when a new tier of PvP content is introduced, Conquest Points will be automatically rolled down into Honor Points.
In addition, personal rating requirements will be removed from most items, especially weapons, that have previously had it. Blizzard indicates they may offer a few items to "show off" with using personal rating, however.
As a final note, Blizzard added that there will be a system in place to convert PvE points into PvP points, and vice versa. This conversion will not be on a 1:1 ratio, meaning that a loss of overall points will occur in the process, but an exact ratio has not been set.
