SUVA
http://www.buccaneersrookiestore.com/Buccaneers-Gerald-Mccoy-Jersey/ , July 3 (Xinhua) -- About 300 leaders and experts from Pacific Island countries gathered in Suva Monday to discuss enhancing cooperation in the fight against climate change.
The event, organized by Climate Action Pacific Partnership (CAPP), brought together relevant stakeholders to promote the exchange of ideas, innovations and solutions

It will seek to produce transformative outcomes and initiatives to boost fight against climate change in the Pacific, and urge more actions and enthusiasm on the fight elsewhere in the world.
The agenda features interactive sessions with contributions from Pacific leaders, civil society and the private sector.
Inia Seruiratu, Fiji's climate champion minister
http://www.buccaneersrookiestore.com/Buccaneers-Donovan-Smith-Jersey/ , urged the participants to exchange ideas, innovations and solutions to initiate and accelerate transformative actions that result in credible and sustainable greenhouse gas emissions reductions.
The government of Fiji will be the president of the 23rd Climate Change Conference (COP23) to be held in Bonn, Germany.
Fiji's Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has given high priority to COP23, aiming to continue the momentum for action since the entry into force of the Paris Climate Change Agreement in 2016.
The entire region is highly vulnerable to climate change impacts. The London School of Economics estimated that across the Pacific Islands

Fiji, like other Pacific Island states, faces challenges in fully implementing government policies due to limited technical

Home to over 870,000 people in the central South Pacific Ocean, Fiji's 300 volcanic islands include low-lying atolls that are highly susceptible to cyclones and floods.
The country is no stranger to the devastation wrought by climate change. Sea flooding is usually associated with the passage of tropical cyclones close to the coast. Heavy swells, generated by deep depressions andor intense high pressure systems some distance away from Fiji
http://www.buccaneersrookiestore.com/Buccaneers-Davonte-Lambert-Jersey/ , have also caused flooding to low-lying coastal areas.
According to a World Bank report, climate threats to Fiji's society and economy include higher rates of disease as average temperatures rise; increasingly destructive storms as oceans get warmer and weather patterns become more severe; disruptions to agriculture as the intrusion of saltwater damages existing farmland, among others.
On Fiji's main island of Viti Levu, these factors are expected to contribute to economic damages of up to 25 million U.S. dollars per year

NAIROBI, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese tourist died from fall while climbing Mount Kenya's tallest peak on Sunday evening, Kenyan wildlife officials confirmed on Monday.
Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) Assistant Director Simon Gitau said the 33-year-old man from Hong Kong climbed the mountain but fell down while returning.
"The tourist had actually climbed the mountain but fell down while returning. He was a professional climber," Gitau told Xinhua.
According to KWS Corporate Communications Manager Ngugi Gecaga
http://www.buccaneersrookiestore.com/Buccaneers-Chris-Godwin-Jersey/ , the service had sent a professional rescue mission to retrieve the victim's body but said the mission could take about three days due to poor weather.
"Weather is very bad at the moment. Snow is quite a lot and retrieval operation may not be easy but we have sent an experienced rescue team to the scene," he told Xinhua.
Mount Kenya is the highest mountain in Kenya and the second-highest in Africa after Kilimanjaro.

NEW DELHI, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- The local government in India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh has set up a committee to ascertain the lapses that have caused the deaths of 60 children at a medical college hospital, officials said Saturday.
According to the government
http://www.buccaneersrookiestore.com/Buccaneers-Chris-Conte-Jersey/ , 60 deaths have taken place in the hospital during past five days.
The inquiry was ordered Friday night after local media reports quoting hospital authorities said 30 children died in the hospital due to lack of oxygen cylinders.
Meanwhile, the local government denied deaths of the children due to lack of oxygen cylinders in the hospital.
Health Minister of the local government Sidharth Nath Singh said in a statement that 60 children have died in the hospital since Aug. 7 due to different diseases but not because of lack of oxygen cylinders.
"District magistrate of Gorakhpur has also initiated a magisterial probe to find exact reasons of children death," a government spokesman said. "The district magistrate is camping there to look into the matter."
Opposition leader and former Chief Minister of the state Akhilesh Yadav termed the incident as unfortunate and held the local government responsible for the deaths.
